All items including yard waste must be placed by the curb no later than 6:00 a.m. the day of collection. Carts should be placed with the handle facing away from the roadway and about two feet apart. After collection, all carts should be removed no later than the evening of your collection day. Residents should keep carts in their garage or a location in the back or side yard if they are being kept outside. Carts should not be kept anywhere in the front yard. Pick up day is Tuesday.
Each home is provided with a 64-gallon garbage cart free of charge. Additional garbage may be placed in either plastic bags OR containers that are no greater than 32 gallons in size and do not exceed 50 pounds. All garbage should be properly contained in a rigid container to prevent littering. Please make sure your garbage and recycle containers are accessible to the driver for pick up.
One bulk item will be collected with the weekly pickup (i.e., couch, small table, mattress, box spring, toilet, etc.)
Carpet is considered a bulk item and must be cut and rolled into 4-foot lengths. Each roll must not weigh more than 50 pounds. All carpeting and padding must be secured with tape or string. Up to 3 rolls will be collected per week.
Residents also may rent additional garbage carts for $4 per month by calling Waste Management customer service at 800-796-9696. Carts are available for purchase for $105.
Incidental quantities of home improvement project debris such as drywall, tiles, wood, etc. may be collected as long as it is properly contained in either the garbage cart, a 32-gallon can and/or bundled and not to exceed 50 pounds in weight. There is a limit of three 50 pound bundles OR three 32-gallon cans of home improvement project debris per week.
Spring and Fall Clean-Up
A Curbside spring and fall cleanup will be provided for residents to dispose of additional bulk items, refuse and electronic wastes. White goods such as refrigerators, washers, dryers and water heaters will be accepted. Up to 4 automobile tires will be accepted provided the rims are removed. The cleanup will occur on the regular collection day. Check with the Village for the dates. Certain restrictions apply.
Yard Waste is collected weekly on your scheduled pickup day from April 1st through November 30th.
Electronic Waste Ban
Effective January 1, 2012, the State of Illinois has banned electronics from landfill disposal including the following items:
Televisions – Monitors – Printers – Computers (laptop, notebook, netbook tablet, desktop) – Electronic keyboards – Facsimile (fax) machines – Videocassette recorders (VCRs), – Portable digital music players (MP3 Players, iPods, etc.) – Digital video disc (DVD) players – Video game consoles – Small scale servers – Scanners – Electronic mice – Digital converter boxes – Cable receivers – Satellite receivers – Digital video disc recorders (DVDR)

The Grundy and Will County Land Use Department’s hold several recycling events for hazardous wastes and electronics throughout the year which Coal City residents may utilize. Waste Management only observes the following holidays. When your pick-up falls on or after one of these holidays, your pick-up will be one day late during that week.
NEW YEAR’S DAY – MEMORIAL DAY – FOURTH OF JULY – LABOR DAY – THANKSGIVING DAY – CHRISTMAS DAY
Waste Management picks up white goods (refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves, water heaters on the second Tuesday on the even numbered months. Please call us at 800-796-9696 if you have a white goods item that needs collection in advance of those dates.
Every-Other-Week Recycling Pick-Up
Each home is provided with a 96-gallon recycling cart free of charge. Residents may rent additional 96-gallon recycling carts for $4 per month by calling 800-796-9696.
While your trash and yard waste will be picked up on your usual pick-up day, recycling pick-up occurs every other week. Part of the Village will be serviced one week, and the remainder will be serviced the following week.
