Neal Nelson was elected as a Coal City Village Trustee in April of 2015. Mr. Nelson had served two four year terms as Mayor of Coal City from 2007 to 2015. During his term as Mayor the voters by referendum provided six million dollars in funding to improve the Village Storm Water infrastructure. Mayor Nelson, Village Board along with a newly appointed team of Village Administrator Matt Fritz, Village Attorney’s Ancel Glink and Village Engineer’s Robinson Engineering provided the leadership and oversight to tackle storm water problems that had negatively impacted the Village for decades. The sanitary sewer system was also greatly improved with the installation of a new gravity fed interceptor sewer funded by 1.5 million dollar federal IKE grant.
Nelson has served as volunteer on the Coal City Park Board, Coal City Promfest Committee and Coal City School Parent Advisory Board.
His career spans over thirty years in the construction, modification and maintenance of nuclear powered generating facilities. His work experience includes quality control, radiography, quality assurance and maintenance / project planning.
Neal and his wife Jenny of 32 years have four daughters, Stephanie Bailey of Coal City, Christina of Villa Park, Illinois, Coley and Dana of Los Angeles California, and two grandsons Colton and Grayson Bailey of Coal City.
