Police Auxilary

The Coal City Police Auxiliary Unit, consisting of 6 dedicated volunteers throughout the local area they volunteer their time to assist the regular members of the Police Department and the citizens of Coal City.

Trained in such skills as traffic and crowd control, emergency first aid and CPR. Members of the Auxiliary Police regularly assist at traffic accidents, special events and natural disasters.

Along with utilizing regular marked police vehicles, the Auxiliary also employs their own SUV as well as their mobile communications / command vehicle.

The Auxiliary is managed by Lieutenant George Hanson who also serves as the Villages ESDA Coordinator and Sergeant Jim Dunning, and is staffed by the following dedicated volunteer.

Anyone interested in joining the volunteers unit may pick up an application at the Police Station or Village hall.

Volunteer Coordinator: George Hanson

The Coal City ESDA is responsible for updating the Illinois Plan for Radiological accidents. These plans cover emergency procedures that would be put in effect in the event there was a situation at the Dresden or Braidwood Nuclear power stations.

ESDA Coordinator is certified in CPR and is trained in severe weather spotting, incident command, shelter management, traffic control and emergency communications to provide aid to families and neighbors in the event of a major catastrophe. In addition, he is also an amateur radio operator.

Emergency Services and Disaster Agency is an integral part of our City’s emergency response team. This organization ensures the updating of emergency procedures occur and provide support to the City’s emergency responders and is prepared to assist at any major event that our City may experience.
